Solidarity for Xara: Overwhelming Support for a Family in Strehla
Xara, a little miracle, was born weighing a mere 370 grams. Shortly after her birth two and a half years ago, doctors indicated to her parents that they might have to say goodbye to their daughter. Xara was born prematurely, and on her second day of life, she had to be resuscitated. The doctors at the University Clinic in Dresden fought for her life for forty-five minutes, and thankfully, she made it. “She is a fighter,” Saskia and Axel Naumann proudly say about their daughter.
In recent days, the Naumann family, which also includes Xara’s seven-year-old sister Xenia and her twin sister Ziva, has experienced another miracle. Many people in and around Strehla have taken an interest in Xara’s story and want to support the family in extending their home. The goal is to provide Xara with her own room and an accessible bathroom. The extension could cost around €100,000, a considerable sum for the family of five. That’s why Saskia’s sister, Vivien Köpke, had the idea of starting a fundraising campaign using the “gofundme” online platform. Under the title “Xara kämpft” (Xara fights), anyone who wishes to donate can contribute.
“We had no idea,” says Axel Naumann. They were pleasantly surprised when, after just one day of fundraising, around €10,000 had already been donated. After one week, the total has reached over €28,000, and the generosity of the donors shows no signs of waning. “It’s incredible, truly heartwarming,” says mom Saskia. “Words fail us.”
So far, nearly 600 donors have contributed, demonstrating the overwhelming support for Xara and her family.
