The Historic Windbergbahn Gets a New Track
A new chapter begins for the historic Windbergbahn in Germany as a new track is being laid. The old tracks at kilometer 2.6 were beyond repair, prompting the association responsible for the maintenance of the railway to undertake the renewal project. However, they are facing a significant challenge along the way.
Renewing the Track Section
Work has already commenced on the track section located at Ferdinand-Freiligrath-Straße. The new rails have been delivered and laid down, but there is still some work to be done to ensure the track is properly aligned and the ballast is properly packed. The association is committed to restoring the railway to its former glory and providing a safe and enjoyable experience for passengers.
Overcoming Challenges
“It is a late morning at Ferdinand-Freiligrath-Straße in Freital. The old railway embankment, which runs parallel to the road, is shrouded in a gloomy light due to the fog. A faint hum is heard, growing louder with each passing moment. However, it is not a train that appears, but a two-way excavator rumbling uphill on the track. It passes the kilometer 2.6 sign and shortly after comes to a halt. Just ahead of the machine is the bridge over the ‘Zur Schicht’ road.”
The restoration project faces various challenges, including the need for extensive coordination and careful execution of the track renewal process. The association is working diligently to ensure that every aspect of the project is handled with precision and attention to detail.
A Promising Future
The renewal of the track for the historic Windbergbahn marks an important milestone in preserving the cultural heritage of the region. Once the track is fully restored, locals and visitors will have the opportunity to experience the charm and beauty of the historic railway, immersing themselves in its rich history and scenic surroundings. The association’s dedication and efforts promise a bright and exciting future for the Windbergbahn.
